I wasn't going to...

I wasn't going to make another free form quilt...
but the temperatures are getting warmer, the trees are blossoming,
and I'm thinking it'd be nice to whip up something fun & pretty in pastels
- like this 'scattered petals' quilt

trial free form block

using up every last piece of those lovely silky fabrics

Quilt Stats:
Inspired by the colour scheme in one Sujata's latest quilts
and based on the 'windmills' pattern from her book, Cultural Fusion Quilts
Made from a scrappy selection of stash fabrics
including Amy Butler, assorted solids, along with a little bit of Kaffe.
I quite like the idea of those petals continuing to cascade over the edge
-so I may just add a border!

and a bit more #34
for all our overseas quilty enthusiasts -
here's a little peep at our Monday Modern quilt show, 'new quilts for Alberton beds'
happening right now in Auckland, NZ

Enjoy!

Love that aqua/jade floral. How many quilts are in your house?

Thanks Raewyn! This ‘free form’ idea doesn’t come easy or instinctively to me, but once you start it’s a lot of fun! L

Lovely fabrics in your quilt - thanks for the up date on Alberton looks like a superb exhibition and I'm looking forward to getting along there.

I just bought that book and am slowly exploring it. (I can't read too much at a time because I start to hyperventilate over all the gorgeousness and have to put the book down...) 8)
I'm looking forward to seeing your quilt grow. I already love what you've got so far.
The free form idea doesn't come easy for me either, though I love the look when others do it, and I really really want to play too!

The colors in your new quilt are so wonderful, especially with those dashes of rusty reds. Thanks for sharing with Oh Scrap! We always love to see what you are up to!

Oooohhhh...I see some of my favorite fabrics in this quilt. So lovely!

Thanks Maureen. Hope you enjoy the show, the quilts look so much better “in person” . And the old farmhouse is wonderful too! We were very lucky to get such a wonderful venue. Linda

Thank you Gayle! Yes, it’s an interesting book, and concept! I’m having a little play with my ‘scattered petals’ quilt now, unpicking & moving just a couple of ‘petals’ to try & get it blending smoothly! Linda

Your free form quilt is beautiful! What a perfect way to use those particular fabrics!

Thank you so much Audrey! It’s a lot of fun! The actual block tends to get lost a little right in the middle, where there’s a bit of a wild flurry of petals - but I quite like that, just like nature! Linda

Pretty colors and prints. Wish it was getting warmer here in the states too instead of cooler.
