new blocks-old idea

Today I've been making up a few new blocks combining checks & florals together, an idea I've wanted to try for ages. These are LeeAnn inspired 1/4 log cabin blocks. I'm trying to sticking to a limited palette and using an assortment of mr D's old work shirts, along with fabrics from my stash. It's a bit quirky, or maybe mismatched, anyway, I'm loving it so far...

... and I think I'll keep going!
Linking up to "sewcuteTuesday' here this week

Very cool - I love plainds/checks popped in with other fabrics :-) [And thanks for the link to LeeAnn's blog too - it looks like another interesting one to follow...!]

This will make an interesting quilt top once you are done. I expect that the darker stripes will create drama and movement. I am looking forward to seeing more of your project.

I've always loved quarter log cabins and using old shirts for the fabric is a brilliant idea!

I am curious to see more! The plaid has me wondering what the final outcome will be!

I am liking it too. I made some floral mug rugs with check binding last month and liked the combo so well I decided I might try it in a bigger form. On my long to try list. Debbie

Love checks and florals together! It's going to be a great quilt!

The checks and florals look great together, do you make large blocks and cut into four or make each one individually?

I think 'quirky' is fun and I would definitely keep going! It will be fun to see the final quilt top and the way those checks work together.

I'm loving your fabric choices for these fun blocks. Mismatched works so well.
