two little quilts get their bindings: pt 1

I started out this year making a few quilts from Jolene's @blueelephantstitches two books, a real treasure trove of scrap quilt ideas. I jumped right in, revisiting my scrap fabric baskets again & again. Once I'd pieced two super scrappy quilt tops together, I sent them off to Leeanne @quiltmekiwi and she quilted them beautifully for me. 
This week, I've set about getting both cuddle quilts bound & finished. 





Scrappy 16 patch & sawtooth star

This little one is a simple two-block combo, mixing up my scrappy 16 patches with 3 colour sawtooth stars, using ideas from Jolene's book.
Channeling my inner Jolene vibe, I chose simple straight lines for the quilting.
Backing fabric is a Heather Ross Strawberry print and my binding is Tula Pink's blue & white tent stripe. Quilt measures 40" x 48".

    I really like the 16 patch/star quilt! You inspired me to make a compassion quilt similar to yours. Now I know how to quilt it! Happy stitching!

    Such a lovely finish, Linda! I have two questions. 1. You call it a "cuddle quilt" - is that a reference to the size? 2. Which parts of Jolene's books specifically inspired your block/design choices?

      Thanks, Hydeeann. Yes, to me a ‘cuddle quilt’ is somewhere between a baby size or small throw for the couch! My own term!
      And the idea for this quilt came from Jolene’s sampler row quilt (in ‘scrap quilt diary’) - which has a combo of squares & stars across the top section. So, as I’d recently made heaps of star hollow blocks, I swopped them out for 8” finished sawtooth stars. I then used up a heap of leftover squares I had here and made 8” 16 -patch blocks to create the lively checkerboard effect.

    I need to finish my Wensleydale blocks so I can get back to Jolene’s book. Have you ever tried her method of bringing the back to the front instead of added binding?
