Where there's lots started... and even a few finishes!

2020 finishes

Welcome, I hope you enjoy this eclectic mix of finished quilts.

2020
"Second Star to the Right' quilt
After piecing all those stars I was ready to just- get- it- done! But I'm so glad I waited until the 'right' fabrics came along for the borders. There's something very appealing to me about the combination of the grey spot, the pink & white stripe and the Kaffe Guinea Flower wide border. It was a little tricky to decide on the binding material, but I think the Kaffe Aboriginal Dot in Orchid works well at containing everything.
And there are some sweet fabric combos within the stars too, lots of my favourite fabrics here.
I used a vintage sheet for my backing and chose a wool batting, which has given the quilt a soft cuddly feel. I had it quilted by Leeanne from quiltmekiwi in a 'Baptist Fan with a curl' pattern. The finished quilt measures approx. 60" x 54".

Blueberry Crumble quilt
Improv quilt, made up of improv crumb blocks
I used fabrics from my stash,
including a few designer treats, a little 'outback wife' and Liberty,
along with shirt offcuts and snippets of my mother's vintage apron
Machine quilted in a straight line matchstick pattern by Leeanne from quiltmekiwi
The finished quilt measures approx. 58" x 48"

Trellis quilt
quilting by Leeanne,
a messy back featuring a delightful 60's fabric gifted to me from my daughter's MinL
and, a pretty pastel binding from AMH
Gifted to 5yr old Evie's teacher

Due to the nationwide lockdown this year, a few of my latest 'finishes' were all still with the Leeanne the quilter, bittersweet to see pics of the finished quilt but not actually have it here. Sometime in July my five quilts came back home! And I've slowly been adding on the bindings.

Scrappy 9patch quilt
A super satisfying quilt to piece. Finished size measures 69" x 72".
Donated to Hospice here in Auckland.

Florals and Stars and Stripes quilt... oh my!
I started out using a bundle of Rifle Paper co. florals and some cheeky stripes to make these bold sawtooth star blocks. I threw in a few extra fabrics to create more interest and the quilt top came together quite quickly. Leeanne from quiltmekiwi quilted this in an overall meander pattern. The finished quilt measurements 50" x 60". Gifted.

My 'Esplanade Quilt' now has the binding on too! This quilt was made using some Outback Wife leftover fabrics, a mix of vintage, and a few AMH fabrics.
I had it quilted by Leeanne from quiltmekiwi in an all-over pattern called 'water drops'.
Finished quilt measures 1.91m x1.91m.

Another one of the quilts I recently sent away to Leeanne from quiltmekiwi to add her quilty magic to was my 'square-in-a-square' quilt, aka "fresh from the clothesline' quilt. You may remember me making this one some time ago, way back in Feb 2018! Again, just waiting for it to come home and then I'll put the binding on. Update: finally added the binding and gifted.  Here's the latest pic . . .

Carolina Chain quilt
I started this quilt back in Feb 2019. I made all the blocks and even assembled the quilt top. However, it wasn't until March this year that I finally had it quilted Leeanne from quiltmekiwi. One thing that this quilt taught me . . . well, reinforced actually . . . is that I do love a scrappy quilt.

Not so pastel 'Vintage Comfort' quilt
It's a crazy mish-mash of old & new fabrics, a playful stripe, and lots of improv piecing,
and finishes at approx. 170cms (68") x 200cms (80").

A Simple Quilt
Finished quilt measures 52" x 72"
Donated to Hospice

Rosy Nine Patch Quilt
Finished quilt measures 72" x 72"
Gifted
