Ever spotted something and- despite current WiP's- you just had to have a little play?
I had made a butterfly block very similar years ago, {see pic#2}. I remember, I was making a lacy, peaches & cream 'wedding' quilt, and this hand stitched block didn't make it in for some reason.
No plans for this scrappy butterfly block, just a little bit of playful sewing on a Saturday! Will pop it in with my other orphan blocks for now - maybe for an 'everythingbutthekitchensink' quilt one day?

Gorgeous. Love it with the LV background too.
ReplyDeleteI love making old patterns new again with modern fabric. Your butterfly block is wonderful.
ReplyDeleteThat's just beautiful, and it's perfectly understandable as a tangent! I'd certainly go haring off after it, too, with that kind of result waiting for me!
ReplyDeleteThis is one gorgeous butterfly block!! I think I saw a pattern like this one in a very, very old book by Ruby McKim.
ReplyDeleteOh, Linda. What a beauty this updated butterfly is. You are so clever to update the fabrics and give it new life. I do recall an old pattern that appliqued the butterfly to the background but like your method so much more. Thanks for sharing your creativity.
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen that butterfly design in a really long time. Thanks for sharing with Oh Scrap!
ReplyDeletesoooooooo lovely. I have seen this antique pattern for years, and always loved the grace of it, but yours are especially pretty. Will you share your way of piecing it or have you and I missed it? Leeanna at not afraid of color
ReplyDeleteI just love your butterfly play! Love, I say!
ReplyDeleteI pinned this block ages ago ... now I need to go trawling through my pins now to see if there was a pattern attached. Love your version of it so much ... I hope it doesn't stay an orphan for too long.
ReplyDeleteI love your beautiful butterfly block!! A whole quilt would be so pretty especially with your fun fabric choices.
ReplyDeleteI have made this block too for a bee - part machine part hand pieced! It is lovely and a great block to add to an 'everythingbutthekitchensink' quilt. I'm using my orphans to make charity quilts - it feels great to use them up. Thank you for linking up to #scraptastictuesday
