rainbow; noun arch of colours in the sky
Oh goodness it looks like a rainbow exploded around here today . . .
I finished putting my 'queen of the May' quilt top together this week, all from stash

After a few days of experimenting
with different borders, different sashings and different settings,
with different borders, different sashings and different settings,
this is where I finally ended up . . .
Just my luck, the HST border didn't exactly fit, so there's some quirky improv corner piecing
And I started to run out of bigish pieces of my main yellow floral fabric
so in true 'makedo' fashion
I had to piece several bits together when I reached the outer borders
Hopefully once it's all quilted it won't be an issue

It's big, it's bold, and . . . it's unlike anything I've made before

It's a stunner Linda! Bursts with colour and the VFW yellow floral is a magnificent background. Love the improv HST border.
ReplyDeleteIt was lovely before, but those borders just make it. I suspect that stripe wasn't part of the original plan, but I love how it gives the center and the HST room to breathe.
ReplyDeleteI am so glad you chose that floral. This top is drop dead gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, it's glorious!! I LOVE the colors!!! Absolutely beautiful! Great job.
ReplyDeleteLooks really lovely. Well done!
ReplyDeleteLove it! Makes me want to make one!
ReplyDeleteOh, Linda, I love your bright yellow quilt! Absolutely fabulous! So pleased you decided on the yellow floral background, it makes your blocks SING.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Linda!
DeleteIt all started as a vague idea and a pile of mismatched bright fabric!
Yes, I too love the yellow, so glad I had just enough to finish it off!
Hi Linda! This is so gorgeus! I love the design and the colours! Wow, every circle is so beautiful and the triangle borders suits so well! No patch is an issue, this is patchwork! I prefer improvised piecing which is usually necessary because I 'plan as I go'. x Teje

ReplyDeleteThe floral background is great! Love your very happy and colourful quilt-top!
ReplyDeleteHow lovely! And it went together so quickly. Congratulations.
ReplyDeleteOh such a fun and happy quilt Linda - how good it's been to watch this grow! And a bit of improv piecing - it's all part of the essence of quilting isn't it?!
ReplyDeleteFabulous !
ReplyDeleteSo pretty! Love the bright, sunshine-y yellow for your background!
ReplyDeleteWow what a cracker! The yellow background brings everything together to a fabulous cohesion.
ReplyDeleteit looks great - I love it
ReplyDeleteI would never have thought that floral background would work, but it is just great! This is one big, beautiful and very happy quilt.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous!! Especially like the way you bordered it and let the quirky bits be part of the show.
ReplyDeleteSuch a sunny quilt, especially on this wet grey day.
ReplyDeleteJust stunning. I love it.And the borders!
ReplyDeleteWow...it is big, bold and so very beautiful! What a work of art you have created! Thank you so much for sharing!
ReplyDeleteYour blog opened, I saw the quilt, I gasped. What a happy quilt! I adore it.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely beautiful! Love that bold yellow so much.:)
ReplyDeleteOh, Linda, this is absolutely gorgeous! I love everything about it!!!
ReplyDeleteThis quilt is a marvel to me, Linda. I know you've posted photos of its construction but I still have trouble imagining myself putting it together AND having the blocks lie flat. It's really beautiful with all the bright prints. It's interesting to see how in some blocks the points are predominant and in other blocks the alternate fabrics around the center circle stand out more. Well done!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Nancy.
DeleteYes, I smile each time I look at it now... now that it’s all together!
I kinda went through a “cut 1st think later” process with this quilt!
And the fabric play certainly keeps one looking doesn’t it?
Have a good weekend, Linda
Fabulous! I still love the yellow background, the triangle border works perfectly, and all those lovely scrappy colours give so much to look at.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know I like yellow so much! This is fabulous!
ReplyDeleteIt's big, it's bold and it's BEAUTIFUL!
ReplyDeleteBold, bright and beautiful! I wasn't too sure about the yellow floral as the background, but it's a brilliant choice.
ReplyDeleteIt's stunning Linda! So glad you went with the VFW floral for the background. Congratulations for running outside your comfort zone!
