Welcome to our first link up for
'Sew, Stitch, Snap, SHARE'
'Sew, Stitch, Snap, SHARE'
Here's a little peek at what I've been busy doing this week - scrap sorting. I've been on a mission, cutting up extra scrap squares as I work on my present project. I guess it's also a tidy-as-I-go effort too, bit of a novel approach for me. I used the suggested square sizes 2 1/2" 4 1/2" and 6 1/2" from Katie's tutorial here over at sewkatiedid. These blocks all automatically fit together, making improv relatively easy.
I cut out lots and lots of squares, a mixture of brights and quirky low volume fabrics. And somewhere along the way, it all suddenly started looking really b.o.r.i.n.g.
Then I had a "what if" moment . . .
. . . what if I added other random blocks and segments from my 'rejected' basket,
some bright ones like this sweet butterfly I made ages ago
- think I'll keep cutting up scrappy squares for just a bit longer
Linking up my scrap sorting efforts with Nicky and Leanne too here for the monthly 'scraptastic Tuesday'
Time now for 'Sew, Stitch, Snap, SHARE'
Julie from JulieLou and I decided that we needed a regular mid-week link up to share WIPS and finishes. And to help keep us on track with our own projects too.
So we have created 'Sew, Stitch, Snap, SHARE' where we sew and stitch, snap a photo or three, and share it to our link, which we co-host on the second and fourth Wednesday of every month.
Please link up what you have been sewing and stitching so far this month, and visit some of the other bloggers who have linked in too. You can write as much or as little about your project as you like, or simply let your photos do the talking.
Julie and I have decided to share the commenting on linked blog posts, so as long as you aren't a no-reply blogger you will receive a comment from either one of us.
Thanks for joining us, we are both looking forward to seeing what everyone has been sewing.
It does look good and keep going! Love the butterfly - a great way to combine scraps and orphan blocks. Thank you for linking up to #scraptastictuesday!
ReplyDeleteScrap sorting can be a bit tedious, but it is very satisfying in the long run! Your butterfly is very pretty surrounded by your scraps....too pretty to be called scraps, really! BTW Your link is not working.... :-((
ReplyDeleteYou are very creative with your quilts. How many are you currently working on?
ReplyDeleteOh dear, I dare not count them up :)
Deletelots of prettiness and I love the scrappiness of them.
ReplyDeleteThe butterfly looks perfect in the new quilt and happy to have found a home.
ReplyDeleteHi Linda, lovely scrappy stuff on your blog! I wonder, I can’t link up on Julie’s website, but I can’t link up on yours either.
ReplyDeleteIt says: This InLinkz widget is not allowed in this website. You can still view the linkup here. Wen I click on ‘here’ t takes me to Julie’s blog.
I love the butterfly added in with your scraps - it looks right at home.
ReplyDeleteAdding the other rejected blocks was definitely an inspired solution. Your new scrappy organization project is coming along beautifully. I wasn't able to link up via your post, but was able to link up on Julie's. I see the "This InLinkz widge is not allowed in this website. But you can still view the link up here" message at the bottom of your post.
ReplyDeleteMany congratulations on starting up your linky, and good wishes that it continues for many years!
ReplyDeleteI think improv scrapping is the greatest fun, and love what the addition of your orphan block butterfly did for it. I had one on my wall last night, and it needs 'something'. Good idea to start digging in that box reserved for 'someday'.
Julie
Congratulations to the new linky party! Your blocks look beautiful and I love the butterfly! x Teje
ReplyDeleteLOVE IT!
ReplyDeleteI've been trying to use scraps from one project in another as I go too! Your addition of "reject" butterfly was a good choice.

ReplyDeleteThanks Cathy!
DeleteI’m always on the lookout for ways to use up my scrappy stash too. I was just going to leave the pile of cut out squares, deal to them later, but I got carried away and started playing ... as you do!
Happy easter, LInda
You have a great eye Linda - the addition of the 'reject' blocks is fabulous!
ReplyDeleteThanks for doing the linky party. Now I need to go check out everyone's posts!
ReplyDeleteI love your addition of the reject block. It really sparks things up. It's a brilliant idea!
I love how adding blocks like the butterfly add an extra sparkle!
ReplyDeleteThis new quilt in the making is a wonderful scrap reducer I think. I like your butterfly block in there and looking forward to other blocks popping up! What a wonderful response to the linky party!! I bet you're both so pleased.
ReplyDeleteThank you Maureen, Well it certainly pays to hang onto everything... scraps, orphan blocks, leftover binding strips, and rejections... the whole caboodle!
DeleteMy only problem is storing everything until inspiration hits me!
Oh my goodness yes, I was so surprised when I logged on this morning to see all those link ups!
Looks like we are not the only ones wanting to keep the love of blogging alive
How fabulous to see all the link ups. I completely forgot after vowing I would join in, so will have to try and remember next time. Great initiative.
ReplyDeleteSorting scraps is something I never seem to get around to, now I have ended up with all my scrap boxes full and when I need something I end up pulling them all out and ending up in a dreadful mess. Maybe I should add it to my monthly list to do a half hour every week. i like the idea of doing the sizes which go so well together, great idea. Love the butterfly.
ReplyDeleteAh yes, the neverendingscrap story! (Now there’s a good heading for my next post!) I started out sorting by colour, and using plastic baskets from the supermarket. It did work well for a while.
DeleteAnd lately, I have made a real effort to do a good tidy up at the end of each project. But I still seem to end up with a mess :)
Happy Easter, Linda
What a great "what if" moment!! Clever brain to think of that - looking fab.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful coordinated scrappyness! The butterfly looks great! Thank you for hosting this fun linky party!

Hi Linda, your scrap quilt comes along nicely, and yes, yoou are right, these kind of quilts do look boring once they reach a certain size. The idea to add orphaned blocks is fabulous. They will add focus and interest and you still get to use up plenty of scraps =) Thanks for sharing
