It's been a week of stitching . . . hand stitching that is.
First up, I have a finish to share, my 'chamomile quilt'. I spent a bit of time yesterday hand stitching down the binding.
If you have ever wondered about sending your quilt away to a machine longarm quilter, there are certainly some pluses in doing so. This quilt was big, too big for me to wrestle with on my domestic sewing machine. And all that negative space was just crying out for some special icing. And, there's a lovely sense of collaboration & celebration in working with others. . . so I sent my quilt off to Leeanne from quiltmekiwi for some quilting magic, et voilĂ . . .
And the rest of my time was spent doing some extra hand stitching on my 'long distance' quilt. Before stitching all my three pieced columns together, I needed to get the fans stitched down and then I used some simple sashiko stitches to secure those special little extra floating bright patches.
I'm using completely different fabrics to the original design, and happily, I was able to use fabrics mainly from my stash. It's all part of my latest mission, "exploring" my stash and making the most of the fabrics I already have, and popping in a few new favourites to keep things interesting.
And this great improv pattern was ideal, my large scale floral prints work so well here and it all goes together quite quickly too.
- until next time
Linda
They are both lovely. I love the greens in the top quilt. I am very tempted by the AMH quilt - I like the stitching elements.
ReplyDeleteWow I love the chamomile quilt. It is so subtle and clever.
ReplyDeletethe quilting looks good for that quilt
ReplyDeleteYour quilter did a lovely job quilting your chamomile quilt, but I think what really makes this quilt is your use of those greens in the sashing and binding. It's a wonderful finish!
ReplyDeleteYour "Chamomile" quilt is so lovely. And what a change of pace you have made in the "Long Distance" quilt. I love that blue fan.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous quilts! Chamomile turned so pretty and soft. Love the bright blues in your fan block. Looks like another pretty finish in your future.
ReplyDeleteA lovely quilt that looks fabulous on your bed. So summery and soft. Making the nine-patch posts an o instead of an x is a good idea. Somehow it softens the quilt further.
ReplyDeleteThe feathers are beautiful but I especially notice the way she quilted those loops across the entire three sashing strips. I would have tried to squeeze them into the green strip and then wondered what to do with the rest.
I'm glad I came across to see your Camomile quilt and all the pretty photos! The pale pink in the corners really offsets the green spot beautifully Linda!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely quilt. The quilting really enhances your piecing, all those lovely loops and feathers, and I like how you use the deep green to stop it all from blurring together.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your Camomile quilt finish, colors are romantic and the quilting is tastefully done!
ReplyDeleteYour Sashiko stitching adds color and texture, beautiful work!
Congratulations on the finish with Chamomile quilt, lovely soft colours and beautiful machine quilting from Leeanne. I'm hoping to make a start on my Long Distance quilt soon, I love how you've approached yours, a fabric mix rather than one line from a designer.
ReplyDeleteAhh so you've just answered my question fro the previous post - I see how the fans are done :-) Beautiful finish on your Chamomile quilt. The green sashing and the pink corners really make it a 'wow' quilt!
ReplyDeleteI love your Chamomile quilt, the colours, the quilting all perfectly beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI think you will be encouraging lots of people to either try the chamomile quilt or the AMH quilt... they both look so good! Good on you for experimenting with your stash, after all... you acquired it for a reason.
