Well, last time I posted I had my quilt pieces all out on the family room floor. The way the colours are placed gives the impression that this quilt is pieced in vertical columns, but it is actually all joined diagonally. One quiet day this week, I moved my sewing machine into the family room too and started carefully joining up all the squares & HST's . . .
. . . one row at a time. I laid out the pieces along my long wide ruler and then lifted the ruler up off the floor to my sewing machine so I could join them.
Once they were all stitched together, I attached all the rows of strips using safety pins onto the correct ends of my already larger completed piece. And then I moved the whole thing up to the machine again to sew it all into a quilt top.
There is one quirky column, which I love.
It's a mix of colour quite different to how the other rows are put together, just because.
It's a simple layout with lots of scrappy surprises to explore. I've used a great eclectic mix of fabrics from my scrap baskets - Kaffes, spots, checks & stripes, AMH, lots of other little bits of Amy B., Jen Kingwell, Denyse Schmidt, outback wife, and some small scale reproduction fabrics. I do love a good scrap buster, don't you?
Can you spot my 'rogue' column?
Finished quilt top size 180cms x 145cms

ReplyDeleteLooking so good Linda, it will be like a memory quilt of past quilts with all those scraps.
ReplyDeleteWhat a charming scrap quilt. Love the colors you've used and best thing is that they come from your personal scraps. So meaningful.
ReplyDeleteWhat a glorified rush if colour. Yes, I can see your rogue.
ReplyDeleteYou put this quilt together really quickly, especially as you had to do all that delicate balancing act with the ruler! Yes, I spotted the rogue.
ReplyDeleteYou've really motored with this one Linda. I love the mix of fabrics you have in there, there really is nothing quite like a true scrap quilt - congratulations on a neat quilt top!
ReplyDeleteAdorable ! I love every little piece of fabric you used. Nice work !
ReplyDeleteIt's gorgeous. I didn't realise the pieces were as big as they are until I saw it on the bed. And no, I have no idea what the rogue is. :D
ReplyDeleteThanks Kerry. Each square is 4” finished. If you have a look at the whole quilt, the 4th column from the left is just a bit different.
DeleteAll the others are two colour combos, but that row is a bit more of a mixture, with pink, orange, blue, & greens. (I tried emailing back to you but it didn't work.) Thanx for stopping by.
What a fun quilt...love the scrappy look!
ReplyDeleteOh, I love this layout...rogue columns and all! Congrats on an a quilt top that inspires!

ReplyDeleteThanks Audrey! Yes, I kinda loved it the moment I realised what I’d done!
DeleteIt’s turned out quite a large quilt, I’m tossing up now about whether I will quilt it or not. I can only do straight line, boring stuff.
