The other day I pulled out a little pile of 'Broken Dishes' blocks that I had tucked away in a basket, they had been in there for simply ages. They are in unconventional colours, a bit scrappy, a bit different, and a bit quirky . . . but I couldn't just throw them out.
I spread them out on my table, wondering just what to do next with them. They happened to be right beside my latest new floral, Sharon Holland's 'bountiful perennial' fabric, and suddenly {insert happy dance} this old WiP had grabbed my fullest attention.
Loving this different scrappy mix of vintage and new. And there's also something very pleasurable about working on a WiP that's been sitting around for ages. Linking up with Myra for 'finished or not Friday' over here.

Inspiration
Lately I've been following Jennifer Twitchett-Hyland from A Piece of Cloth in Australia.
She puts 'daily quilt inspiration' pics up on her instagram feed
- lots of wonderful old quilts, well worth having a peep.
I also stumbled across another quilt while reading a post by Ann from fretnotyourself
- Nettie Youngs 'stacked bricks' here I love it!
It's funny when you finish a blog post then see someone else has just done the same thing, to think we must have been sitting 'together' at the same time writing a blog post.........with a nice hot cuppa I hope? Yes it is very satisfying to pull out and in my case dust off some WIP's.......enjoy!
ReplyDeleteIt's scary how many Wip's you have Linda. This is quilt is definitely giving off that modern vintage feel you specialise in.
ReplyDeleteLove the red and black Dishes, especially with your new florals. And I'm so glad you're pulling out old WIPs, too. Can't wait to see more of this.
ReplyDeleteHi Linda,
ReplyDeleteI just love reading about finished WIPs. Especially those that had been enjoying basket time for quite a while. ~smile~

I really really like your quirky broken dishes blocks. Happy to see you loving them again.
ReplyDeleteI love the 'different day, different scraps' title! It's true! And I agree that it is both rewarding and fun to finally use stray blocks in a project!
ReplyDeleteWhat a perfect union. Love that your broken dishes have found a new life.
ReplyDeleteA wonderful inspiration and a perfect combination!!

I need to follow your example Linda - pull out the partly made pieces and get to the finish line!
ReplyDeleteAnother gorgeous quilt in the making. Love the red and black hour glass blocks, they are set off beautifully by the pretty new fabric.
ReplyDeleteI love the red and black - and can't wait to see how this all comes together. I follow A Piece of Cloth too - the quilts she posts are so inspiring.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the shout out. I'm glad you are enjoying my instagram exploration of old and wonderful quilts. Nice WIP.
ReplyDeleteWow, what a great block/sashing combo. It's so fun when something like that just seems to happen.
ReplyDeleteI love your mix of fabrics in these blocks.
ReplyDeleteHow fun to pull out an old WiP and find yourself falling in love with it again! I love how you're adding something new to it as well. This quilt looks like it will be scrappy and fun!
