Hello again
Thank you all for stopping by, reading and linking up to 'Sew, Stitch, Snap, SHARE'
and it's great to meet some new-to-me quilters too.
and it's great to meet some new-to-me quilters too.
What have I been busy doing?
Lots of sewing & lots of reverse sewing too!
I had a little pile of big 18" 'broken dishes' blocks that I had made some time ago and a great floral that I really wanted to team up with them. Inspiration came from a few places - I've been following Ann from fretnotyourself progress with her sashing decisions for her 'coin' quilt, and I love Nettie Youngs 'stacked bricks' here and also a recent finish by Monica at Lakeview Stitching.
But there's been a bit of a hiccup in the master plan - as I began to join my blocks up I discovered that I didn't like them at all. It was scrappy yes, but it looked way, way too busy, I hadn't planned my colours well, and really, it felt like this little 'vintage' quilt was just trying too hard.
It's been a well spent few days figuring out just why this wasn't working for me.
Still wanting a happy clash-y mix of vintage and new - so it's back to the drawing board for now
It's time now for 'Sew, Stitch, Snap, SHARE'
My pick from last time was this "Long Time Gone" quilt by Katy from lethargiclass
So much yummy scrappy colour
- pop on over to her blog to see lots more inspiration
And what are you working on right now?
Whatever you're sewing or stitching, you can link it up here.
Just follow these simple guidelines:
1. Link up from any post from the past week that features something you have been sewing or stitching. You can write as much or as little about your project as you like, or simply let your photos do the talking.
2. Somewhere in your post, please link back to this post.
3. Please comment on a couple of the other Sew, Stitch, Snap, SHARE links - its fun to receive comments from new people, and we are trying to encourage people to read blogs and keep blogging too.

I really don't mind the business of your quilt but then sometimes things look different in photos. Congratulations to Katy and her beautiful quilt.
ReplyDeleteKaty's quilt was a stunner. T'will be interesting to see how you solve your quilty dilemma, maybe some low volume strips to breaks the colours up a little.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your sashing decisions, perhaps a tone on tone or solid in a colour that you feel helps pull all the pretty blocks together harmoniously. Off to have a closer look at Kathy's quilt, it looks very appealing! I don't have much to share this time around only customer quilting. Happy sunny day to you.
ReplyDeletePerhaps after the present project "percolates" a little longer you will hit on what to do next. Loved seeing the quilt by Katy, she's done a wonderful job here, I passed on this Jen Kingwell pattern!
ReplyDeleteLove your broken dishes blocks! I'm loving stripes right now and, of course, I think stripes are the solution to everything ... :-)
ReplyDeletegoodluck working out the broken dishes.......hope you work something out that you like as I like the blocks......maybe a different sashing......
ReplyDeleteIsn't it frustrating when things don't work in real life the way we imagined they would? I'm confident you'll come up with a good solution after a bit of pondering time.
ReplyDeleteKeep at it - I know you will eventually get it figured out but it is sure frustrating when initial ideas don't work out so well!
ReplyDeleteKaty's quilt is gorgeous, Jen Kingwell puts out great patterns.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Kaja, I think you'll figure out what to do with your project.
I've been on a road trip and I haven't had time to sew on any of my projects.
Soon I'll get caught up and have things to share.
I’m sure you will figure out what to do with the broken dishes blocks!
ReplyDeleteI love your blocks, maybe with a quieter sashing?
ReplyDeleteI have no doubts that you'll come up with a perfect solution! It just needs to marinate a little longer.
ReplyDeleteI love that gorgeous Long Time Gone! I'm teetering on the edge of starting one myself...
I'm fascinated by the similarities between vintage fabrics and modern ones lately. I do like your broken dishes blocks, and I'm sure that you'll find a way to make them excite you. Reverse sewing isn't fun, but if it leads to something satisfying and wonderful, it's totally worth it!
ReplyDeleteThe photos look great but I know they may not be true to life. I've been wondering if a stripe or some solids might help. You'll figure it out, I'm sure. Thanks for the shout out. I find your fabrics very inspiring myself.
