As soon as I saw Jo's 'Blanket Bay' Quilt I was hooked. I downloaded the pattern and started straight away. Her quilt was inspired by beach holiday homes of the past, where furnishings were often an eclectic mix of mismatched florals, just like our bach at Waihi Beach.
The bach has been in the family for 40 years and over time we have accumlated a crazy mix of mismatched bed linen, crockery and furniture. So many carefree holidays there, so much fun.
It's a simple quilt to piece and after my initial fabric pull, I then went rummaging in my stash for something just a bit different for the borders. I ended up with this quirky floral fabric mix, including 'outback wife', 'lennox gardens' by Robert Kaufman, 'carnaby street' by Pat Bravo, Bari J. Abloome Fusion, florals from BasicGrey & Tilda, and assorted ginghams, spots and blues from my stash. Along with Kona vintage white and a Riley Blake confetti blue.
Finished quilt top measures 1.65cms x 1.50cms.
All ready now for basting & quilting.
EDIT: I found a pic here of a quilt from the Gees Bend collection, reminds me of Jo's pattern

Linda
yes it screams beachy bach! There must be something in the air today because I just post about a beach themed quilt I have just finished quilting.
ReplyDeleteP.S do you still go to the bach for holidays?
Linda, my toes are tingling with so much love for your version of my pattern. It is absolutely, totally delightful! And I love that your family has a bach :) It's an ambition of mine to visit the beach houses of New Zealand, something else we Aussies have in common with you. Love, love, love it. Thank you so much for sharing! Jo xx
ReplyDeleteI really like the look of this quilt. I like the casual look of Jo's patterns.
ReplyDeleteLove all the different fabrics. Especially making each border from a different fabric.
ReplyDeleteSo I must be really dumb---what is a "bach" ??? And personally I don't like the borders----they just don't seem to connect with the inner pinwheels. Just my opinion---your quilt, your borders, your love
ReplyDeleteWhat a delightful combination of large florals with your blue pinwheels. I love that that don't match but rather, play well together. Very lively.
ReplyDeleteThis quilt is such a delight! It absolutely radiates 'beach'!
ReplyDelete(It also makes me think about my almost total lack of florals in my stash. I need to remedy that, thanks to your inspiration!)
I know I have said this before but you have the best florals in your stash! Love the quilt.
ReplyDeleteThis is absolutely wonderful! I just came back from visiting her site where I ordered 2 of her patterns. Love this post.
ReplyDeletehow wonderful to build memories at Waihi Beach. This will certainly fit in.
ReplyDeleteI like how you went back to blue and white for your final border, to contain all those lovely florals and balance out with the pinwheels. It definitely has a beachy/holiday feel to it. :-)
ReplyDeleteSuch pretty florals! You can't go wrong with that combination.
ReplyDeleteI love this piece! Mixing the florals in the border is delightful. So many fun things to look at. It really says "beach house" to me :)
ReplyDeleteHow fabulous is this? I love the mix of blue & white with florals! Food for thought!
ReplyDeleteAn ideal "beach holiday at the bach" quilt. I love your fabrics Linda, the mixed borders are just beautiful!
ReplyDeleteAnother fantastic finish - it will be perfect for the beach. So fun!
ReplyDeletePerfectly named and a lovely finish - it's amazing how you have mixed the mis-match in to make it work so well! We had some happy bach times (as children) too :-)
