Hello, hello. As I was cutting all those strips for my courthouse steps blocks (see my last post), I
was going to tidy-as-I-go. But then it struck me that these fabrics were way too pretty to tuck away again quite so quickly. So, I also started cutting out 10" squares if the piece was big enough.
I decided I'd make traditional broken dishes blocks in a bunch of fun bright fabrics in an effort to use up more of my stash. Inspiration for the quilt and
*colour palette from
Amanda at
prairie quilt co.
I have heaps of cut out squares but only one block finished!
Because sadly, everything came to a screaming halt. I had to take my sewing machine into the repair shop to be serviced and hopefully get the clunky sound in the bobbin repaired.
Without my sewing machine here, it was time to start tidying up the sewing room. There's fabric everywhere at present - overflowing baskets, random fabric stacks, messy fabric spaghetti piles of leftover strips ...
... I'm in my happy place,
sifting & sorting through this sprawl of possibilities

Loving your Broken Dishes and your previous Color Splash!
Bad luck to be without your machine but I've loving seeing your overflowing baskets and piles of fabrics - now I don't feel too bad about my need to tidy my fabric baskets!!
You have beautiful mounds of bright, pretty fabric! It would be a shame to hide it all away without doing what you are doing! Great idea--and hope your machine comes back soon all ready to roll.
I have noticed quite a few folks doing a fabric tidy up lately. I have closed up,y machine for a few weeks just to get caught up on all the handwork have neglected. Hope your machine is back in good repair soon.
I always like the gingham mixed in with the other colors like you do often
I like to have groups of fabric sitting out too. I might not even make a quilt with them but enjoy looking at them.
BOO HISS for clunky bobbin noises and unplanned machine servicing! Hope they get your machine purring like a happy kitten quickly and with minimal expense. "Tidy As You Go" sounds like something that mean Marie Kondo organizing guru would say in her book about tidying up by throwing away everything you own and living in an empty house with nothing to play with. I have created quite the mess in my own studio with all of the fabrics I've been pulling out (and not putting away) for my Stonefields project. Problem is, there is never an enforced sewing break from hand stitching the way there is with machine stitching, because if a hand sewing needle breaks you just grab a new one from the package. I suppose if I broke my hand that would make me stop sewing, but then a broken hand is also a really good reason why I couldn't tidy up my studio!
