sew stitch snap SHARE #17

Thank you so much for all the great comments in my last post about my 'floribunda' quilt. It's lovely to read all your thoughts and your +ve feedback is very encouraging.

It's been another week of not too much sewing here. But, I did spot a very pretty sewalong happening here. Exploring some art textile with lots of fabric oppportunities & stitchery embellishments is a new direction for me, exciting, and seems like something that I could pick up now & then as time permits over summer.

And, I knew that little bundle of low volume fabrics would come in handy. . . one day.

I do love the look of a scrappy quilt and, just for a change, I'm going for more of an overall low volume scrappy effect. The idea really appeals to me just now. . . like all restful & pale, ethereal even, with a few 'pops' of bright.

Wild Bloom Quilt is a modern sampler with lots of lovely extra touches like collage, crochet lace and sashiko, giving it a little boho flair. For more details and all the quiltalong links pop over here at barijdesigns or here at southerncharmquilts.

It's been a while since I last used the machine applique stitch. I had to dig the manual out, but I got there in the end. Loving this floral collage idea. I've added little clusters of french knots to the centre of the flowers, and I've ordered this book Boho Embroidery from the library to get more inspiration of other little extra details I could add too.

and 'la fleur' block is done too . . .

Time now for another fortnightly 'Sew, Stitch, Snap, SHARE' linkup
Let's take a look at my favorite pick from last week,
Glen from quiltswissy had so many great things to share.
Have a peep at her notebook cover, beautiful printing- makes me want to give this a go too

and I loved her improv stripes quilt

Pop on over here to see heaps of Glen's other inspiring projects.
(all pics reposted each time with quilter's permission)

a little bit of lovely

Lovely fabrics from #apieceofcloth arrived this week.

Every 3 months, approx. 1metre bundle of vintage fabrics arrives,
the idea being that over the year
there should be enough to make a lovely vintage style quilt.
Still undecided just what I will do with these fabrics, but they are certainly lovely to look at.
And very different from anything that is available here in NZ.
What's inspiring you today?⠀

finishing things

So tempted to start something new but it's getting so close to the end of the year
- time to finish up a few things first.

A few quilt details:
"Floribunda" quilt
Made from a mish-mash of stash fabrics
Simple shapes, random colour surprises
and I had lots of fun playing with the value placements in each block.
See here, here and here for earlier posts about my inspiration & progress photos
I used Amy from diaryofaquilter size chart for cutting these 'sawtooth star' blocks
{you can find it here}
Binding is 'violet static diamond' by Victoria Findlay Wolfe, see here
Finished quilt measures 165cms x 140cms
Lightly machine quilted all over by Leeanne from quiltmekiwi

Has that 'end of year' feeling hit you yet?
Do you feel the pressure to finish a project or two, or is it just me?

sew stitch snap SHARE #16

Happy Wednesday everyone!

My not so pastel #vintagecomfort quilt has come back home from the quilters.
This colour combo with the playful stripe
was inspired by Sheena Chapman's work and what was here in my stash
- see here for my earlier pics & progress.

Finishing touches were beautifully done by Leeanne from quiltmekiwi
It's lightly quilted all over, as I love my quilts all soft & cuddly- perfect for snuggling under.

and, I asked Leeanne to leave the crazy patch section untouched
as I wanted to add some big stitch hand quilting

When life is busy,
I find a little hand quilting in the evening is a great way to unwind.

Time now for another fortnightly 'Sew, Stitch, Snap, SHARE' linkup
Let's take a look at my favorite pick from last week.
Gayle from mangofeet has been busy making pickle dishes

It's a fun scrappy block, but I know from experience, they do take a bit of time.
If you are keen to give the pickle dish blocks a go too, see here for lots more inspiration.
Gayle's posts are very lively. . . with pickles, and monkeys, and sheep everywhere
- pop over here to see what I mean

fabric magic

While scrolling through IG today I learnt a lovely new word from amitietextiles feed
"Fabracadabra ( Fab-ruh-kuh-dab-ruh) Noun  A mystical word or expression used when a fabric magically appears in your stash and you have no idea how it got there . . . or so he thinks!"

My first little surprise were these two geometric prints
my son & daughterinlaw bought for me while holidaying in Veitnam
- and they will be very useful

Then later this week there was a pretty parcel in the post
A small bundle from Amitietextiles
First up, from the Tilda quilt collection 'botanical red'  and 'sigrid dove white' . . .

And yes, I admit I'm on a mission to collect a few more plaids
like these Gertrude Made Essentials - large & small Checks in Black & White . . .

This spindriftquilt pattern turned up too, lots of colour, fussy cutting & scrappy dresdens

And then . . . a few new fabrics from fatquartershop turned up as well (???)
Le Vintage Chic from Art Gallery Fabrics, a soft mix of pink, taupe and mint
- a very pretty low volume selection, the perfect alternative to use instead of plain white . . .

along with a small selection of Tokyomilk 'neptune & the mermaid' fabrics,
which will be great for fussy cutting I'm sure?  . . .

- playing with fabric combinations
is a great substitute for when there's no actual sewing time

a little finish

A little finish for a little person
. . . who is due to arrive any day now!

You may remember my little bicycle quilt from this post
I had it machine quilted in a gentle meander pattern by Annette de Raat
and then I used a Kaffe print for the binding.
Not too sure whether our next grandchild is a boy or girl, but I'm all ready now.

sew stitch snap SHARE #15 and taming the scrap pile

Happy Wednesday everyone!

Life has gotten pretty busy around here these past few months, not much time for sewing.
After decluttering & passing on lots of fabric,
and after packing up most of my fabrics, most of my WiPs and my quilting books,
I find myself still left with this large basket of leftover scraps, crumbs, and strips
- it feels like a loosing battle!

I began yesterday by sorting this bundle out by colour, with all the blues first.
Strips & strings in one pile, squares & snippets in another
Hmm-m-m I must say, these blues all look ridiculously tempting
. . . do I stop sorting & start sewing a new scrapbin quilt instead?
I'd love to hear how you tame your scrap pile.

In the meantime,
let's get straight into another fortnightly 'Sew, Stitch, Snap, SHARE' linkup.

My favourite project from last time was something sweet and simple

Cynthia focuses on making beautiful quilts from scraps and existing stash. She has so many ideas on how to work with scraps - pop over here to see her Scrap-A-Palooza Quilt Gallery for heaps of more inspiration. {I wonder how she sorts all her scraps?}
Her latest WiP is a fun string quilt using lots of different pink shades mixed with a little bit of grey.

Oh, and I popped back a few days later
and Cyndy had finished her pink & grey string quilt top

Sometimes sweet & simple is just about right, yes?
(all pics reposted each time with quilter's permission)

And what are you working on right now? Whatever you're sewing or stitching, you can link it up here. Just follow these simple guidelines:
