vintage spin

I have a finish to share today, my scrappy "Vintage Spin" quilt

- mr D asked if I'd lined up the spots first!?!
duh, I'm more of the 'perfection-is-overrated' school of thought!

The edge-to-edge machine quilting was done by Annette de Raat

I love how light you got yours to be. Very lovely (apart from those wayward unaligned dots haha).

Fantastique Madame!!! Don't really know why I am using French but it just seemed to fit your beautiful quilt!

I love this!!! The colours, the scrappiness - those unmatched dots (LOL). You have had so many finishes this year. Well done.

Does your vintage machine work - or is it ornamental only?

I love this scrappy quilt - I have thought of making this pattern for awhile now and have not gotten around to it. I also love that sewing machine and wish it was mine :)

What a great finish! I love how the stripes on the 'spin' create movement in the quilt. Beautiful photos too! So glad you linked up to TGIFF, Linda!

It looks fantastic, and I love the detail you gave to material placement and cutting to make the spinning effect more dramatic!

Thank you so much!I’ve used a real mixture of old & new fabrics, and did quite a bit of fussy cutting! I had a little panic moment when it was all looking a bit too chaotic, but I’m really pleased with how it all turned out in the end!

LOVE this quilt!! Colors and variety are so well-balanced. You make it look easy to pull that off, yet we know it is not!

Thank you LeeAnn! Yes, I found the pairing up of fabrics took quite a bit of time & consideration, had to rummage deep into the stash a couple of times! And the fussy cutting, while it chomps through the fabric alarmingly quickly, it certainly paid off. I love the finished effect!

Congratulations on a lovely finish. I love the movement this design gets and your fabric choices really make the most of that. You have also managed the scrappy look beautifully - lots of variety but well balanced at the same time. It's great.

It's love at first sight for me and this quilt. How you managed to combine these seemingly different fabrics into a gorgeous quilt... There's just one thing, though, the dots don't seemed to be all lined up... (just kidding). And I love the pictures with your beautiful antique sewing machine.

This is such a gorgeous and scrappy quilt! Is there a tutorial for the block somewhere?

Hi Diann, Thank you!
The quilt is 'Vintage Spin' from Kathy Doughty's book 'Adding Layers'
I attended her inspiring Modern Wedge workshop back in October, lots of great ideas - http://kokaquilts.blogspot.co.nz/2015/09/class-show-tell.html
