what's happening in my sewing room

Today I've got a random collection of things I've been working on playing with lately.

My latest project, "star crossed" is a utility quilt from "utility style quilts for everyday living" by Sharon Holland. The quilts in this book are a lovely blending of vintage and modern. I'm starting out using a new fabric stack 'Love Story' by Maureen Cracknell and will add in other fabrics from my stash as I go.

And it feels like these scrappy flying geese blocks have been flying around my sewing room for ages. I've made heaps of them, and I want to get them together. now. But I can't decide if my geese should fly up & down like this . . .

or maybe they could fly a little like this . . .

Decisions, decisions

Linking up with Cynthia for 'oh scrap' here
and with Julie here at julielou for 'sew stitch snap SHARE'
- if you have a project to share, pop on over & join in too.

Thanks for your comments - hopefully this one will trigger emails to let me know you've stopped by.

Both layouts work but I like the first one the best!

Nice Star Crossed block!
I like your geese blocks no matter which way they
decide to go.
That said, I like the first one too, it's easier on the eyes.

I like the second version of your flying geese, something a little different. Also love that blue floral in the star of your new quilt.

It is too hard to choose a layout. You might have to make enough blocks so you can make both. Thanks for sharing with Oh Scrap!

Difficult choice but I think I prefer the first "Up and Down " version.

Such pretty fabrics in those flying geese, Linda. I don't think you can go wrong with any of these!

I adore your flying geese and how they are starting to come together so well! It's always interesting to see where people will land with the final details of the layout. It definitely looks like a win/win either way!

I love your new project "Star Crossed". I think the vintage version may be called "Tulip"...well at least that's what the quilt block was called when I made my quilt from 30s repros.

And those Geese look good in every single layout so I can see your dilemma. Maybe you will have to make a couple more quilts so you can have one of each!

That's a lot of flying geese! I like the second version a bit more than the up and down. More interesting to my eye.Claire aka knitnkwilt

Love the geese. I prefer the ordered version because that's what geese do. Plus there's enough chaos happening with the joyful fabric combos. You don't need to mix it up any more - but the random direction layout does work too. (Every time I see a quilt made with lots of random scrap combinations, I think to myself "that's what I need to use up my scraps!" but of course it doesn't use them up at all LOL.)
