- the very last bit of this 'mod corsage' fabric:(
- progress on the design floor
- I found lots of layout options for HSTs
My next little venture for my 'quilt the book' project is a HST star quilt. I'm following Jolene's layout & measurements, only, unlike her version, I've decided to go the full rainbow palette. I don't often use a rainbow - or gradient - palette, but I’m going to have a go here.
I enjoy making HSTs (truly), always keen for some perfect points practice, and it's a simple sew that eats up a few more of those scraps, running out of white/creams now!
I'm using a gorgeous scrappy array of rainbow hues, including a few 'bridging' colours to move things from one colour to the next. Think red/pink, orange, yellow, green, blue, blue/purple, and red/purple. A rainbow scrap quilt seems to be more about the overall effect rather than the individual fabrics, and it's a great way to keep the variety and movement happening without the stress of worrying too much about placement of colours. From what I've read so far, the main idea here is that you want your fabrics to blend!
However, it's a little fun challenge for me because, as most of you know, my stash is predominantly in large scale, multi-coloured fabrics. I'm digging deep for some fabrics that read as one colour, and I'm also including some new favourites, some jewel tones, & some pastels, sewing them all together (very) roughly in ROYGBIV order.
Blues & purples up next ...

Beautiful, it's an exploding star!
that looks so pretty. I don't mind doing HST's but I normally have to make the a little larger than needed and then square each one up. I am just not a perfect piecer and will have some smaller or larger than needed - usually smaller.
Your 'Quilt the Book' project looks great, 'full rainbow palette'. Jolene's book Scrap Quilt Diary is very inspiring.
It looks great, Linda — and I know how bittersweet it is, putting your last usable scrap of a favorite fabric into a quilt, knowing you can’t get any more of it. I swear I regret all the fabric I DIDN’T buy so much more than I regret the fabric overflowing out of my stash!
You are having great fun with your "quilt the book" series! I love the creative way you used the last bit of that "corsage" fabric to center your quilt. So many hst's, I'll have to try to quit my current addiction to hollow star blocks and try making a small quilt. It's been awhile since I've featured hst's, maybe they'll be fun next time ...
I do like the way these HSTs work so well. Love your rainbow!
So much colour - beautiful and can't wait to see the finish!!
HST might be my most favorite thing to make. This is really lovely
One of your versions looks like a quilt Audrey made. I hadn't considered making that quilt from HSTs. It looked like it should be QSTs (which I dislike from some weird reason.) Now I can use some of my own HSTs. Thanks.
I love this for so many reasons. It is colorful like the Spring. It is bright and joyful. It glimmers with hope...something that is in short supply in my neck of the woods. May the Quilting Fairies protect all the points!
