My sewing room was looking too colourful & tidy not to share
- As a scrappy quilter, I don't buy much in the way of large pieces.
Everything gets stacked on shelves in these white baskets, usually by colour, but sometimes by designer.
I use a lovely old dresser from mrD's grandmother for extra storage,
which enables me to have some older fabric hidden away in the depth of the cupboards!
- Embroideries made by mrD's mum (in 1946) & my mum
- Finished quilt tops get to hang out together in the wardrobe!
And on the design wall at the moment
- auditioning setting triangles for hexagon quilt
- a fun little colour collage
- a trial bear paw block
- string quilt
- present WiP boardwalk blocks
Starting was the hardest part for me. It all felt overwhelming a week ago, but once I got busy it was very satisfying (and almost a relief!). I haven't changed anything major, just sifted & sorted, made a few decisions - like keep, chuck, gift/donate - and am resolved to try & keep my space tidier, for longer!
Love to hear how you sort & store your fabrics.
Are you ruthless in the chucking out department? Or do you hang on to fabric, like me, just in case?

Thanks for the zoom around the room. I have kept a lot of fabric that I no longer want to use just because I bought it. Over the last two weeks, I have pulled out all of that fabric, touched it, measured it, and gave is serious consideration. Much of it is in a bin to give away and I am feeling very good about that.
Your studio is looking very organized and colorful. I agree that starting is the hard part. Making that first decision and then keeping at it.
Enjoyed the tour!! You are now very well organised and must have a good sized room! I had hoped to start on mine this week but no - never happened. Definitely some sifting is needed, I have far too many scraps but yes, I may need them later - actually I won't because I'm never going to make that many scrap quilts at all. I have a large sewing cabinet at my place with extending leat at the back, permanently up, great for quilting but takes up a heck of a lot of room. Some of my fabric baskets are in dire need of tidying, I think this post will spur me on, fingers crossed. Oh before I finish - how do you find the larger keyboard? I've been thinking of buying one.
Ooh, what a lovely and unexpected surprise tour of your sewing space! It’s delightful, just like you and your quilts. Thanks for showing us around!
Loved seeing your baskets - they totally explain your quilting style. Looks like you are making great progress.
I love seeing different craft rooms. There are so many great ideas. Especially storage and displays. Your room is full of inspiration.
what a lovely and spacious room...thank you for letting us in! most of my stash is half yards or FQs, stacked by color on a tall shelf unit...so happy to see others who have way more fabric than me...lol
Ooo. Ooo! I really enjoyed this tour of your sewing room! It's great to see all your white plastic bins of fabrics. Your assorted piles and colors makes me feel good that mine are in a similar condition, though I think "you win!" for having more scraps than I do. :-) Also, I was interested to zoom-in on the book titles on the shelf. You sure have lots of Kaffe books! Wow! I didn't even know he wrote/published so many! I sure like the looks of your Boardwalk blocks, and will be Googling for more information about the pattern. In any case, thanks for your sewing room overview. I really like seeing how others are set up... and how, in many ways, no matter where we are in the world, we're all in similar conditions.
Fun tour! Thanks. I love the string quilt on your design walk.
Love the idea of a "zoom around the room" -- bits and snippets that allow us to share our special spaces. What a happy room you have!
