first finish

I have a colourful scrappy quilt to share today, my first finished quilt for 2019.
You may remember my 'feeling plummy' project from  back here? Well over the holidays I had it machine quilted by Leeanne from quiltmekiwi and it arrived back home this week. The edge to edge quilting pattern is called 'fishnet' and I love how it flows over the quilt. I'm not sure if it's because of the quilting pattern, or the wool batting, or my perfectly imperfect piecing {redoing some of the centres to display the fussy cutting did add to the 'fullness' in some of my blocks}, anyways, this quilt has a real cuddly puffy feel to it.

I chose a pretty Tilda fabric for the binding, one I'd used for one of the blocks in the quilt. Stitching the binding on used to be my least favourite part, sometimes I'd put off adding it for ages. Lately though, I've started really enjoying this. Choosing the binding gives me one last chance at highlighting a colour or fabric, a way to frame things and add some finality to the quilt making process I think.
I've also been working on getting a nice amount of 'volume' in my finished bindings, a binding that is sturdy and has pretty tidy corners.
I hand stitched the back of the binding down in the cool of the summery evening yesterday, sitting outside on the deck, with glass of vino and looking back over all the fabrics. Love to hear if & why you enjoy stitching the bindings down too.

Linking up with Cynthia for 'oh scrap' here and with Kelly for 'needle and thread Thursday' over here

Lovely quilt, it looks so soft en fresh. When I stitch the binding i know I can almost cuddly under the quilt and I love that. That's why I do not mind stitching the binding. But I only finish one or two quilts in a year so not so many binding to stitch.

GEORGEOUS! What a great way to start your new year. I love sewing my bindings on by hand - as my longarm quilter says, its the last time you will spend with the quilt in progress so enjoy it! In my books it is a soothing pastime and one that I look forward to.

What a beautiful quilt, congratulations! I love the design, the fabrics, the lot!
And yes, I love stitching down the binding (by hand, of course :-)), because it means that it is nearly finished and I will be able to enjoy the quilt.

I couldn't agree more, Leeanne's quilting pattern 'fishnet' is perfect on this quilt. Your 'perfectly imperfect' piecing is not evident to me and even if it was I still adore this particular quilt Linda.

And a beauty of a finish it is! I especially love the last pic....with all that greenery and lovely warm sunshine! We are cold, grey and rainy/snowy here in the northeastern USA.
I enjoy hand stitching the binding....simply because it is relaxing...and a great way to savor a finish (and the fabrics too)!

What a great way to start the year. I love it! I too like stitching the binding, though I used to regard it as a chore. Now I enjoy that feeling of nearing the finish, stitch by stitch.

What a beautiful quilt. Love the pretty colors and fabrics. I enjoy binding, do it like you, hand stitching it down. Nice to take to Patchwork meetings. Can chat as your sew!

Lovely finish. I think it's been the day of bindings in blogland. I just finished binding two minis.

That is a beautiful quilt, Linda! Such a unique block - definitely one I would like to try one day. Love the plums and blues together!

Oh, Linda, this is just glorious! Fabulous quilt for the first one of the year!
I enjoy stitching the binding on - it's such a peaceful process in itself, plus it means all the decision-making is done for that quilt and it's time to just relax with it.

Lovely finish Linda. The colors are so pleasing. I love hand sewing on bindings in the evenings as I listen to the tv. I find it so relaxing. Thanks for linking up with Oh Scrap!

Beautiful! How wonderful to have this finished - a great start to the year :-) I don't mind hand stitching bindings - I, too, find it quite satisfying and a good way to re-visit the quilt.
