Earlier this morning I sat down with a coffee and one of Kathy's books, Making Quilts, that I had borrowed from Glenys.
I was hoping to get a few ideas about patterns & fabrics for the workshop, but instead I came across a quilt that I remembered starting ages ago, Greenfields. I had no pattern back then, just a photo in an old quilting magazine, a bunch of 5" Denyse Schmidt charm squares and just over a metre of bright fabric, a Kelly Green spot. I had jumped right in making up heaps of scrappy strips. Then it all got put away for a rainy day!
When I retrieved it out of the depths of the wardrobe today, I discovered I had actually already made quite of bit of it. Here's a few pics...
... it'd be a shame not to keep going with this now, yes?
Needless to say, I haven't got very far with any decisions about fabric selection for the workshop!

I envy you taking a class with Kathy Doughty! I love her quilts, have two of her books ( although I am ashamed to say I have never made one of them) and read her blog. I am sure you will have a great time. Glad you have rediscovered your Kelly Green WIP.
I contemplated doing that course, I got all her books out of the library too, so I could research the patterns. Decided not to in the end, but am looking forward to seeing what you make from it. That wardrobe of yours sounds rather ominous with its neverending supply of WIPs in its depths.
Oh yes definitely keep going, I love this and what a great idea for 5" fabric pieces.
If you'd decided to go, we could have finally met up! Never mind. Ha-ha, yes that sewing wardrobe is not the only problem around here... we have lived here for 43 years- sigh -and I've never really seriously decluttered anywhere! Gotta convince mr D. to relocate down at Waihi beach!

Thanx! Yes, very colouful & scrappy! I suspect that bright green was possibly the reason why I stopped with this ages ago... but I love it now! Funny isn't it, how you can change your mind about things over tine! L

I love pulling out projects to find they are further along than I thought! Just to find I've stashed fabric along with them is a thrill. I think that's the attraction of buying a kit sometimes. SO, SO green with envy that you all are attending Kathy Doughty's workshop. Oh, to be a fly on the wall that day...Hope everyone enjoys themselves!

Thank you! Yes, it’s a bit like opening up Pandora’s Box around here sometimes, never know what I’ll find from way back! And the workshop? think I’ll just take a selection of fabrics & keep open minded. It’ll be a fun day I’m sure! Linda
