If you have stopped by occasionally, you will know that I love scrap quilts. I love making them, love gifting them, and I really love sleeping under them too! Over the last few days I've been trying to make a few decisions about my latest quilt, for which I used a focus fabric plus scrappy fabric stash, and was inspired by Sujata's 'Organised Chaos' quilt. {see here for earlier details}
These really are hexagon blocks with a difference, quite addictive, and lots of fun!
After making 20 blocks
I spread them all out on the floor and looked at them {and walked around them!} for a few days

I needed to make a decision about filling in those corner triangles
I trialled a few options first
First up - low volume creams & whites, which really emphasised the lovely secondary circles,
but very traditional, and to be honest, something I've done before!
Next up - assorted blending colours, very colourful, but oh my goodness, very chaotic!
and then...
h-m-m-m- I think maybe red really is my new neutral colour!
So the big question now is
... do I?
... or don't I?
*EDIT: my personal colour consultant {aka my daughter} requested a long distance pic

Go for it. I think the red makes your blocks POP.

I think the red makes the blues pop a bit more than a neutral color would. Great discovery!
I think the red is definitely the answer. Makes the pattern show up dramatically. Freddie Moran always says red is her neutral so you are in good company, Linda.

LOVE the red!! It makes other colors pop so yes most definitely. :-)
Love my Kaleido ruler -- have made several great quilts using it!! The red really makes the turquoise pop!!

Thanks Diann! The jury is still out on this – while I too love the red, I’m leaning towards going “pretty’ with low volume corner triangles & keeping that vintage-y feel!

Actually, the gray carpet color would be a good modern-y choice for the corners . . . but I like the pop of the red, too. I've made one kaleidoscope quilt. It was paper-pieced and the paper was a real pain to remove. I think a specialty ruler would make the job a lot easier, should I ever make another.
Ha-ha, my daughter loved the ‘carpet look’ too!
I’m still trialling options, at the moment I’m lovin’ a soft plaid.
And yes, it was so easy with the ruler, worth investing in one! I’m sure there are other uses for it too, just haven’t worked out what yet!
red Red RED
I vote for a scrappy, multi print red. But go with the red to maroon or magenta colors, not orangey red.
