'broken china mosaic' quilt

It has been a long time
but my take on the 'emperor's wheel' quilt by Chris Jurd is finished

I initally machine quilted all over the quilt,
a combination of straight line in-the-ditch and 1/4" outline, nothing fancy
just enough to secure the layers without distracting from the scrappy feel of the quilt.

And then I spent a bit of time adding in some big stitch hand quilting embellishments
including adding these french knots to my broderie perse flower centre . . .

I've had my son here from Melbourne for a week :)
and he was happy to be my quiltholder for this photo shoot

My finished quilt measures 150cms x 130cms.
Fabrics used include a selection of AMH fabrics, mainly the softer pastel ones,
a little Amy B., a couple of oriental fabrics, along with a selection of low volume fabrics
and a Martha Negley Seasons Collection Winter Fabric in Cream for the border.
See here where I wrote about my inspiration and making the broderie perse centre
and there's more progress pics herehere and here.

Linking up with Myra for TGIFF here
and with Cynthia for 'oh scrap' here
And there's still time to link up to 'sew stitch snap SHARE' here to share your WiPs

Another lovely quilt finish, Linda. As always, super colours and fabrics and presicion sewing. Love the stitching embellishment, especially the French knots.

I love the colors in this one. I definitely need to add some aqua to my stash. I might need to do a bit of shopping this weekend!

Thank you Raewyn! Yes, I’m very happy with it.
The pattern was great, easy to follow, and it was fun relearning about how to paper piece again. (It’s been years since the 1st time I tried pp)

Have a nice weekend, Linda

Oh it's a real beauty Linda!! So restful just sitting looking at it up on the screen, it must be a delight to hand quilt and embellish.

This is so soft and lovely! And I love the addition of the big stitch. I had been thinking of French knots in the center of the flower on the top I just made, but wasn't sure if that should be embroidery before quilting or part of the big stitch. Looks like it works fine as part of the quilting. So thanks!

Thanks so much Janine! I enjoyed having a go at that broderie perse for my centre, a new-to-me technique!
And adding the big stitch quilting adds more texture & interest. I guess anything goes really, I’ve certainly enjoyed adding those extra little bits of embellishment.
Thanx for stopping by, Linda

After seeing your finish, I went straight to Chris J's site and ordered the pattern . Since paper oiecing and patterns in general are not my favored fare, you can tell I really really like your version!
