in the hoop

Have you noticed,
there's a bit of renewed interest in hand quilting lately?

I too spent a pleasant Sunday evening quietly hand quilting my 'emperor's wheel' quilt

I had thought I was further along than I actually was {sigh} never mind
- refocused now on getting this finished over winter
Linking up with Kathy for 'slow Sunday stitching' and with Cynthia for 'oh scrap' here

A great quilting tutorial is Sarah Fielke's one on big stitch hand quilting,
which you can find over here
and there's another indepth tutorial here covering traditional as well as big stitch quilting

and Wendy from wendysquiltsandmore has written an informative post
all about her quilting thoughts with lots of wonderful photos too,
well worth checking out

maybe see you back here Wednesday
for the first 'Sew, Stitch, Snap, SHARE' link up

Hi Linda. Your quilt looks wonderful! There's so much going on in it. And the hand quilting will finish it off just beautifully. I can't wait to see more!

Linda, I love that quilt, and your quilting! I had fun clicking over to the tutorials you linked about hand quilting and enjoyed learning from them. I recently hand quilted my log cabin quiilt, and enjoyed it so much! I will definitely do it again!

I am in love! Look at all those lovely florals. I wish my eyes weren't so tired in the evening. I would love to get my hand quilting out again. Thanks for sharing with Oh Scrap!

You know that I totally love this quilt and am thrilled that you are now quilting it - hopefully that means lots more photos of it so that I can continue to live vicariously!

I love the thread that you are using for your quilting. I just started a new hand-quilting project. I like it for small quilts, but I prefer to have larger quilts completed by a long-arm quilter. Your quilt is very pretty.

Wow, gorgeous colors, prints, and layout. Big stitch quilting is my preference since I never learned how to rock the needle for tiny stitches!

I love looking at the fabric combinations in your quilts, Linda. You have a great eye for which fabrics look good next to each other. Also a fan of big stitch quilting, so the close ups of your work tick all my boxes!

Thank you so much Linda!
I have in the past had any larger quilts machine quilted for me, but, now I’m retired it gets a bit too expensive.
Hence, the making of smaller quilts lately, ones that I can quilt myself, either on my machine or by hand.
It’s taken me a little while to get back into the ‘flow’ of the big stitch hand quilting I must admit! And my stitches are not always consistent, but I’m really enjoying it now.
Thanx for stopping by, Linda

Oh, I'm so glad you're working on this again - I just love it! The hand quilting is the perfect touch!
When I was growing up, hand quilting was the norm and machine quilting was a rarity. Now it's the other way round, and I wasn't paying attention when that transition took place. I still prefer handquilting, but I'm trying to do more machine work, just to speed things up a bit.
