Quilt Stats: 'little miss sawtooth star' quilt top
I found that this quilt was a great way to use up some of my stash. I'm usually all about colour, lots of colour, but I must say I've so enjoyed this softer look featuring low volume fabrics. I used loads of low volumes, and you may notice that I've weaved just a little bit of more colour into my selections.
And, I also tried to get a good scrappy assortment of medium prints, with the occasional darker/brighter one to help the colours 'pop' just a little more.
The Sawtooth Star (which goes way back to the 1860’s apparently) is a very versatile star, it can be made different just by simply changing up the centre. I've used 6 different sawtooth star blocks, and repeated a few favourites. These have been alternated with the background filler squares to give a total of 30 blocks, free pattern here by Melanie from southerncharmquilts.
My version is slightly different to the pattern - I made all my star points scrappy. In the pattern, the 8 points in each block are from the same fabric.
Finished top measures 60" × 72″ It feels so good to have made this quilt top all from my stash.

Beautiful stars! Going your own way with scrappy points and the colour mixed in with your low volume fabric has worked a treat. Is this a keeper or possibly for one of your grand-daughters?

it's very interesting with different centers, and doesn't it look great on the bed! Who wouldn't love seeing it on their bed, such happy colors and the sawtooth pattern is always pretty. Great job as usual, full of color and line!LeeAnna

I like that you have lots of low volume but also some lovely colours - the mix is just right and you have found some very pretty fabrics for your star centres too.
Your sawtooth star quilt is fabulous!! I love your fussy cutting on the birds and florals and they way you mixed your colors, especially coral + lavender which I need to remember because it looks awesome!

I think having the different centres is what held my interest with sewing these blocks, an ‘old’ but so versatile block!
Loving this overall soft & pale palette too. Although I couldn’t help but weave a bit of extra colour into my low volume fabrics selection!

The softness of the background lights shows off your cheerful stars so well.
Your quilt is a delight to look over every block and enjoy. Having all the different star centers enhances the scrappy effect. Love the bird on the branch. You really have achieved an old-fashioned look, soft and pretty.
Lovely! The colors pop and the different light values in the background keep your eyes moving. Beautifully done!
