some unpicking required!

Well this project has certainly been a work-in-progress, evolving each time I step into the sewing room. I started out making 12" sawtooth blocks, then I threw in a couple of pinwheel blocks, and then I stood back and took a few photos.

I'm loving this combination of the two blocks and am having fun playing with colour, value and pattern scale. But after thinking about things for a while, I made the decision to keep all my pinwheel blocks in the one colour, as I really love how the darker pink bits almost form a chain in this quilt.

So yes, definitely some unpicking required this weekend, but that's okay. Here's a few progress photos of my 'stars & pinwheels' quilt top down on the 'design floor'...

- spot the difference!

Yesss... things are progressing well now... can't wait to stitch up a few more blocks!
Happy sewing, Linda

I like all those colors together - I always hate it when I have to take time unpick mistakes

I call it stitching backwards and I'm familiar with it! The stars and pinwheels play so well together!!

Your quilt is looking so striking. Love the idea of combining pinwheels with the stars.

I think your design sense is right on, Linda! The consistent pink chain running through, including the pinwheels is lovely. Keep going!

It is interesting to see where our tastes and preferences take us with our designs. Both colourings worked but you had an idea you wanted to play with and this change has made it work. A lovely result.

I love this mix of pinwheels, sawtooth stars and "chains" -- such a lovely design to showcase all those beautiful floral prints. I like how sticking with pink pinwheels makes the top feel a little more visually organized, but still with all of the variety of a "scrappy" quilt.

Ooo. Ooo. Very pretty! You're right that the two-block combo is effective. Sorry for the unpicking you've had to do, but it happens to all of us, and is always worth it in the end.
