The other WiP that I'm busy sewing at present is my hexi project
Inspired by these gorgeous recent 'doily quilt' versions over here
I too am teaming up my little collection of 'old' doilies with a scrappy selection
of pastel prints
I'm using an old photocopied pattern from an out-of-print magazine
of a bright and colourful quilt called 'Candied Hexagons' by Kerry Dear
Using a pastel palette gives more of a vintage look to this pattern, don't you think?
I spent a bit of time at the beginning of the month prepping,
a very pretty mess that day . . . but so worth it . . .
Making steady progress
- head count now at 28 {out of 100 required} pieced hexagons
- loving this little star cluster, can you see it?
It's made {accidently} by combining three 'baby blocks' together, might just leave it like that
I do think the variety in these little individual pieces is what's keeping me interested
Couldn't resist another group shot . . .
I'm really enjoying this.
It's great way of re-using, and upcycling, and valuing mums pretty collection of doilies
Linking up with Esther here for 'WOW' = WiP's on Wednesday
and with Lorna over here for 'show & tell'

I love it! Adding the vintage embroidered pieces adds so much to this quilt top!
Wowie, this is really really really pretty and cute !
Love from Belgium !
Hi Linda! Wow, so beautiful and great use for lovely doilies! x Teje
very pretty, I love the addition of the embroidered doilies :)
This is going to be a big project, but so worth it! Its a great way to use the doilies and give them a second chance...beautiful!
Very pretty - ultra feminine with a gorgeous vintage look.
Thank you Jayne!
Yes, it certainly gives the hexis a very pretty focus with those doilies.
And such a great way to actually use them instead of having them folded away in a drawer for years!
What a beautiful way to use your vintage linens - I have some waiting to be used one day and this has certainly inspired me.
I SO wish someone would reprint that Candied Hexagons pattern. I'd love to see it. Your version looks absolutely delightful, and is very inspiring. This is going to be a really beautiful quilt.

Thank you Abigail!
I can’t take credit for the doily idea. I was inspired by all the lovely ones I had seen on IG, ‘sweetsundayquilt’ a reworked version of the original colourful 'Candied Hexagons' pattern by Emma at treehousetextiles
Well worth checking out the links –

Lovely fabrics Linda and a wonderful way to display doiles, the ones made by mum and some from a dear aunt are just languishing in a linen drawer!
You have such an eye for colours and detail! Love your hexies!
How beautiful Linda!!!
What a lovely mix of stars, hexagons, triangles, and tumbling blocks. Love these pastels, as you know.
It's just beautiful, and I'm not usually a pastel kind of gal! I love the way you play with colors - whether bright or subdued.
Sooo much fun! Loving your fabric choices and the doilies are just gorgeous.
Lovely use of the doilies. This is going to be an amazing quilt!
Thanks Meredithe
It’s a nice change using this softer palette, and all the little components make for interesting sewing.
My 90yr old aunty (almost 91yrs!) has just given me more doilies, embroideries, and hankies too. She’s quite intrigued by what I’m making with them all!
You really nailed the vintage look with your fabric choices. It's gorgeous.
I agree with momto1 - so wish the pattern was still available! Your colors are gorgeous - soft and feminine! The embroidered pieces caught my eye at Let's Be Social at Sew Fresh Quilts! Thank you for sharing!
